Ancient Findings in Katalimatsa

Katalimatsa, aside from its natural beauty, stands out for another reason: it served as a port for the ancient city that was built at Kastelli. Hidden today amongst the red rocks, Katalimatsa stands out as a beautiful sandy beach, though not so easily accessible. The easiest way to get there is from Megalos Roukounas, following the coastal path. We head east from the end of the beach, then ascend along the creek that flows to the water at that point. In 300 meters we'll arrive at the church of Saint Irene (Agia Eirini). Notice the ancient relics scattered in the area around the church. From the church we'll descend straight down to the sea. There is no clearly defined path, but natural terraces gradually lead us close to the beach, and from there a short path leads us to it.
