Church of the Cross

The small church of the Cross (Stavros) is located about 4 kilometers north of Chora (following the car road). Dating back to the 15th century, this church is one of the oldest on the island. The 7-kilometer-long Path Four (4) passes by it 2.5 kilometers from the beginning of the path in Chora. From Stavros, Path Four (4) continues north to Drapanos and Livoskopos (a very beautiful beach in the northern part of the island, by the church of Saint Irene, or Agia Eirini), a walk that takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. A second path branches off to the northeast toward Vigla (at 581 meters, the highest peak on the island, at a distance of about 1,000 meters, taking 25 minutes of ascent) and then heads east to the small church of Christ (1,500 meters, or 35 minutes, down the path).
