Saint Vasileios

The 7.5-kilometer-long road that starts from Chora and heads northwest across the island ends in a small, nearly deserted rural settlement with two churches (honoring Saint George and Saint Vasileios), two threshing floors, an old stone farmhouse with its oven, prickly pears, a vineyard, a garden, and a modern house. The church of Saint George (Agios Georgios) is hidden behind huge rocks on a hill, and we have to circle around behind them to reach it. The church of Saint (Agios) Vassilios (or Saint Basil) is easily accessible on the dirt road.
