Most of the island’s mining activity took place in Lefkes (where on the left side of the bay we can spot the partially collapsed bridge used to load the iron ore from the area’s mines), and on the northern peninsula that ends at Zogaki (where most of the land is dug up and full of holes). A little before the beach and to the left, we can spot the main entrance gallery for the mines. As we approach, a cold draught of air will relieve us from the intense summer heat. From here a circular route begins, initially heading north to the secluded beach of Sifnio (where we leave the galleries), then continuing to the northern peninsula with the old iron mines, and finally turning south to return to Lefkes. You should not attempt this on your own.
