Ano Kotylio is a village in Gortyna, Megalopolis, where new houses were built a little higher up after the catastrophic earthquakes of the 60's. A very beautiful 7-kilometer dirt road begins there, heading west to the Temple of Apollo Epicurius (Epikourios). The beginning of the route passes through the pine forest of the Cypriot Firefighters. This forest was saved from the destructive and deadly fires of August 2007, thanks to the self-sacrifice of the Cypriot and Greek firefighters, the pilots of the Hellenic Air Force, everyone from Kotylio, and the inhabitants of the village of Petra.
