One of the four old monasteries on the island is the one in Velidi, which is dedicated to the Archangel (Taxiarchis). It is located about 100 meters from the road from Dryopida to Chora (the main town on Kythnos), about 3.4 kilometers before we come to the road from Merichas to Chora. The monastery had closed before 1833, the year when the then Bavarian government closed the monasteries with few monks.
