Mines in Lefkes

On the left side of the bay of Lefkes, we can see the half-destroyed loading bridge that was used to load the iron ore from nearby mines onto ships. Just before the bridge, there is an entrance to the mining galleries. There is an organized tour called 'experience Kythnos' that includes a guided tour of the mining galleries, starting from this point. You should not attempt this on your own. The route is circular, initially heading north to the secluded beach of Sifnio (where we leave the galleries), then continuing to the peninsula with the old iron mines (where almost all the ground has been dug and drilled) and finally turning south to return to Lefkes.
