The house with the trident was a luxurious house with a Rhodian peristyle. A common feature of all the houses was that they faced inward. The rooms were arranged around a square courtyard from which they received light and air, and there were no outside windows on the ground floor. This made the buildings cooler, safer, and quieter and protected the privacy of the occupants.
