The French Archaeological School began archaeological excavations in Delos in 1872. The museum was built in 1904 to house their findings, it was expanded in 1931 and 1972. It now has nine exhibition rooms. Several of the excavated findings are also exhibited at the Archaeological Museum in Athens. In 1990, Delos was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
