One of the main components of Delos' soil is granite. Since its quality is considered excellent, it has been quarried since 1928 and used in many roads. In ancient times, it was used as a building material in several of Delos' buildings (such as the granite monument here, and the flagstones with which the market square of Kompetaliasti is paved).
