The presence of the Italians in Delos (mainly from southern Italy and Sicily) had begun to become decisive for the city starting in the middle of the 2nd century BC. In this context, and in order to emphasize their power and presence in the Aegean region, they built the largest, most massive structure on the island, the Agora (Market) of the Italians, south of the Sacred Lake.
