The church of the Life-Giving Spring (Zoodochos Pigi), also called the Great Church of the Virgin Mary (Megali Panagia), is the largest church in Chora and the island’s cathedral. It has a number of Byzantine religious paintings, and legend says its icon of the Virgin Mary (Panagia) was found in a well (or pigadi, hence its name, Panagia Pigadiotissa).
