The most important local holiday in Psara, in memory of the holocaust on the island when the Ottomans attacked on June 21, 1824, usually takes place on the last Sunday in June. In addition to the many events that take place all over the island, there is a Vespers service in the little church of Saint Anna and Saint John (Agia Anna ke Agios Ioannis) at the site of the Psarians' sacrifice on Mavri Rachi. Then there is a memorial service in honor of the fallen, with all their names read out, and a wreath is laid at the place of sacrifice.
