Church of the Virgin Mary the Vatousena

Approximately 1300 meters after the little church of the Ascension (Analipsis) and 2.4 kilometers before the Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary (Monastiri tis Kimiseos), a dirt road heads north toward the church of the Virgin Mary (Panagia) the Vatousena. If we take that road and then turn left again, we can also find the first church of the Virgin Mary (Panagitsa) in that area. If we continue for another 1400 meters on a relatively passable dirt road, we end up at the church of the Virgin Mary the Vatousena, a dependency of the monastery. Two inscriptions tell us that the church was renovated twice, in 1808 and 1981. It is considered the oldest Athonite church in Psara.
