We will come across many churches (about seventy) on the island, including a number within the settlement. Many of them were built in the 18th century, quite a few presented as offerings by sailors who had been saved from the fury of the sea. This is the little church of Saint George (Agiou Georgiou), whose inscription informs us that it was built in 1805.
