The holocaust monument in the square named after it (Iro-oan Olokaftomatos) in the center of the settlement. On its column are the names of the fallen Psarians and the following lines from Dionysios Solomos's 1825 poem about the 1824 disaster in Psara known as the holocaust, when more than half of the island's permanent inhabitants and refugees were slaughtered or captured by the Ottomans: 'On the scorched ridge of Psara / Glory is walking alone / Thinking of the brave young men, / Wearing a crown on her head / Made of the little green that was left / On the face of this desolate land.'
