We will come across many churches (about seventy) on the island, including a number within the settlement. Many of them were built in the 18th century, quite a few presented as offerings by sailors who had been saved from the fury of the sea. Here below the elementary school we find the church of Saint Spyridon and Archangels (Agios Spyridon ke Taxiarchon). Its modern inscription indicates that it was rebuilt in 1714.
