The bust of Dimitris Papanikolis at the harbor of Psara. Papanikolis was born in Psara in 1790. During the Greek War of Independence, he had a distinguished career as captain of a fire ship. Among other things, he was notable for the first great naval success of the Greeks against the Ottomans: setting fire to a two-deck Ottoman frigate with 88 firearms in Eressos, Mytilene on May 27, 1821.
