Useful Information

Elafonisos is located at the southeastern edge of the Peloponnese and is connected to it by ferries to Pounta. Administratively, it is part of the Prefecture of Laconia. In the winter, it houses several hundred permanent residents. In the summer months, the number is multiplied, as many tourists visit the island with daily ferry boat crossings.

How to Get There

If you are coming from Athens, drive through Sparti (also known as Sparta) and the Artemision tunnel on the National Road. After Sparti, follow the signs for Skala in Laconia. From Skala, you can take one of two routes, to start. The first goes through Elos, Elea, and Asopos. For the second, go to Molai, then turn right toward Asopos. From Asopos, in either case, drive through Papadianika, Demonia, Agios Georgios, and finally Viglafia to Pounta. Up to a point, you will follow signs for Neapoli, but later the road to Neapoli continues straight ahead, while we need to turn right for Elafonisos. From Pounta, take the ferry boat across the water to Elafonisos.

The ferry trip takes about 10 minutes and costs 1 € for each adult and 11 € for a car (although prices may change). During the summer months, itineraries are fairly regular, with boats leaving every hour (in high season, possibly even more often) from 8 in the morning to 11:30 at night.
