The area with the beautiful beach got the name 'Agios Dimitrios' (which means 'Saint Dimitrios') from a monastery that existed here but was completely destroyed by pirates who were active in the area in the 16th to 18th centuries. Today all that is left of the monastery is a small shrine hidden in dense vegetation a few dozen meters above the beach, south of the road that leads to it. We can reach it by following a short path that starts at the main road.
