Marine Park of Alonissos

An informative sign about the National Marine Park of Alonissos and Northern Sporades. The Park's research station is in Gerakas. The Park is divided into zones according to the level of protection and the type of human activity permitted. The core of the park extends into an area northeast of Gerakas and east of the island of Gioura. There, no vessel may enter without permission. Zone A (which includes the core), east of Peristera, includes the islets of Psathoura, Gioura, Kyra Panagia, and Skantzoura, while Zone B covers Alonissos and Peristera. The Park is a protected area in the Natura 2000 Network.
