Old Monastery

A noteworthy site on the island of Kyra Panagia is the Holy Monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (Genesiou tis Theotokou), which was built in the 16th century and is still open today. In the area of Agios Petros in the southern part of the island, on the hill on our right as we enter the bay, we can see the ruins of an old monastery. There is a path that leads here from the new monastery, and you can ask the monks to guide you. This monastery is mentioned in documents of the Monastery of Megisti Lavra, Mount Athos. In the same area, there are remains of an Early Christian Basilica.
