Virgin Mary of the Mountain

In Alonissos we will not encounter many churches, like in the Cyclades, but the church of the Virgin Mary of the Mountain (Panagia tou Vounou) that we see here is probably the most beautiful: a cross-shaped, one-room church with interesting frescoes, a wooden icon screen, and slate tiles on the roof. It dates back to the middle of the 17th century. A portable icon of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary is kept in the church. Across from the little church, there is a natural water source.
