As we head north (toward Souvala) approximately three hundred meters from the entrance to the village of Palaiochora, we will notice two little churches near each other, on our left and about 30 meters farther down, in the ravine of Palaiochora. They both belong to the parish of Vathi. The first is the church of Saint (Agios) Fanourios, and the second is the church of Saint Andrew (Agios Andreas). Both are newer than the churches of Palaiochora. One of the last active springs of Aegina, the spring of Kourenti, is also in this area. Because of the island’s inadequate water supply, its few springs were truly priceless. This spring has been the main water source for the village of Souvala (which is located about 2,500 meters farther north) for many years.
