On July 20, the festival of the Prophet Elias (Profitis Ilias) takes place at the monastery named in his honor on the peak above the settlement of Pyrgos. In addition to the monastery's premises and the ecclesiastical museum with the 15th century icons and the 8th-century manuscripts, it is also worth seeing the magnificent view of the whole island. Bread, cheese, and olives are served at the festival, and in the evening the metropolitan bishop of the island officiates, attended by a chorus of cantors.
