The village of Kamari is located at the foot of Mesa Vouno in the eastern part of the island, 9 kilometers from Fira. It belongs to the Municipal Community of Episkopi Gonias, and according to the 2011 census it has 1344 permanent residents. It used to be the seaport of Ancient Thera. Its great residential development began after the devastating earthquake of 1956 damaged the village of Episkopi Gonias so severely that its inhabitants abandoned it and moved to Kamari. Today Kamari stands out for its famous beach and great tourist facilities. Visitors will find everything they need in accommodation and dining, both on the coastal road and within the settlement.
