Emporio, Emporeio, or Nimporeio is the largest village in Santorini, and one of the most traditional. Here we will find the best-preserved castle on the island, it is still inhabited today. It is located at the foot of the Prophet Elias Mountain, and we can get a very nice view of the settlement from Diapla (on the way to the monastery of the Prophet Elias). The famous black sandy beach of Perissa is less than 3 kilometers from the center of the settlement. Besides the castle, the fortified tower house of Goulas, as well as the many churches of the village, are noteworthy, especially the church of the Virgin Mary (Panagia) Mesiani (16th century, in the castle) and the church of Christ (Christos, 19th century, outside the castle) .
