On the southern coast of the island, starting at Akrotiri and continuing east to Vlychada, the landscape is dominated by the hard white volcanic rock of Santorini in formations reminiscent of a lunar landscape, ending at steep vertical slopes just before the sea. The beaches are covered with dark sand and small black volcanic pebbles. On the two kilometer long beach to which various winding dirt roads lead, the beach sections named Eros and Vlychada stand out, dominated by their dark sand. You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas at the beginning of those beaches, and the landscape that surrounds them is truly impressive and unique. There are no umbrellas or sunbeds at Almyra Beach.
