At the southern end of the port of Ammoudi, a dangerous path leads us to beautiful blue-green waters where we can swim across to the islet of Agios Nikolaos o Peramataris (which means Saint Nicholas the Ferryman). The path is dangerous because of a risk of rockslides from the vertical rocks hanging over it, and in some places the concrete foundation has collapsed. The short path ends in 300 meters at a spot with impressive natural beauty, with the islet of Agios Nikolaos o Peramataris across from us and rocks full of people enjoying their swim in the bay. The little church of Saint Nicholas is dug into the rock. The name Peramataris (Ferryman) came from the narrow passage between the rocky islet and Oia.
