Below Oia, with red cliffs hanging over it, lies the seaport of Ammoudi, a small harbor with daily (small) boat connections to Riva and Korfos, the ports of Thirasia. An 1800 meter road connects Ammoudi with Oia, and so do the traditional mules that climb and descend the two hundred steps, ending up just below the castle of Oia, morning, noon, and night. A few houses and several fish tavernas and bars are located along the small harbor, and on its southern end a dangerous path leads us to beautiful blue-green waters where we can swim across to the islet of Agios Nikolaos o Peramataris (which means Saint Nicholas the Ferryman).
