The road that crosses the southern part of the settlement of Akrotiri passes the archaeological site, and then ends at the sea. Today, the beach in Akrotiri has almost been taken over by the tavernas and other coastal buildings that have been built on it. If we walk east of the stores and restaurants, we can find quiet and isolation. The natural landscape is quite wild, and the large black volcanic stones and rough pebbles that make walking rather difficult are prominent both on land and in the sea. At the edge of the beach, will can see the impressive vertical white volcanic rocks of Almira across the water, and in the distant southeast the houses of Vlychada and the chimney of the old Nomikos tomato factory/museum are just faintly visible.
