Pyrgos is a historic settlement and the site of one of the five castles of Santorini. At an altitude of 360 meters, its castle is the highest on the island, and from its peak we can admire a panoramic view of the northern part of the island and the Aegean Sea. The old-timers named the newest settlement that was developed around the castle “Xeporto.” Until the implementation of the Kapodistrias Reform of Greek administrative areas in 1997, Pyrgos Kallistis was the seat of the former municipality of Kallistis.
