Following the paved road that climbs from the port of Riva toward Manolas, we find on our right the small Church of Saint Irene (Agia Irini). The settlement of the port was named after this church. According to one version, the same is also true of Santorini (Saint Irene, Santa Irene, Agia Irini). The simple dedicatory inscription above the door of the church informs us that the church was founded on May 5 (the day of the saint) in 1867.
