Palio Chorio (also written Palio Horio; the name means "Old Village") is on the hillside below the castle, with the remains of old houses and huge walls. It used to be the center of Halki and was built inside the hill to protect the inhabitants from pirates. On the way to the top and the castle, you will find several country churches, some with collapsed roofs. Most of them have very interesting religious paintings.
