Saint Thekla

About 600 meters before we reach the small settlement of Panagia in Liomantra, we will see the little church of Saint (Agia) Thekla in the area of Sklavogianni, on the hilltop on our right. To reach it we must open a gate and climb the hill for about 200 meters. Gorgeous view from 420 meters altitude of the northwestern part of the island and the Bay of Karavas. The church celebrates with a festival (panigyri) on September 23. To the right and below the point (at the closed gate) where the path to the church of Saint Thekla ascends straight ahead, the longest numbered path on the island, Path 8, begins. After 6.8 kilometers, it ends at the gorgeous beach of Sykamia.
