Virgin Mary in Liomantra

The beautiful little church of the Virgin Mary (Panagia) in Liomantra, in the small settlement of the same name. It is renovated, but the dedicatory inscription mentions the year 1711. The interior is made of large stones and beams. The church is closed, like almost all churches in Serifos, and you need to ask at a house in the village for keys to open it. This church is unusual in celebrating not once, but four times a year! (Zoodochos Pigi, or the Life Giving Spring, five days after Easter; Analipsi or the Ascension one week before Holy Spirit day; Agios Pnevmatos or the Holy Spirit holiday; and Dekapenteavgusto, the 15th of August, the Assumption). Just below and to the right of the church of the Virgin Mary (opposite the ruins of the ancient Mycenaean wall), the neglected Path 7 begins. It ends at Avessalos Beach after about 2 kilometers.
