Avessalos

The small settlement of Avessalos is one of the most picturesque on Serifos. The few houses of the old village spread out along a small hill (75 meters altitude) south of Avessalos Beach. The narrow, sloping paved path that runs among the houses of the village leads to the beautiful church of the Virgin Mary of the Mountain (Panagia tu Vunu), which celebrates its name day on September 8, the same day as a local festival (panigyri). From the church we can enjoy the gorgeous amphitheatrical view of the wide sandy beach of Avessalos. The new village of Avessalos also consists of a few houses that are built around the beach of the same name.
