Cave of the Cyclops
(Spilia Kiklopa Polifimu)

Continuing from the Convent of the Annunciation (Evangelistria) to the southeast on the dirt road, in less than 500 meters we will see a sign on our left indicating the existence of archaeological finds. The road is very narrow, with barely any room to leave our vehical by the roadside so we can ascend the very short path. First we come across the small mouth of a cave. There was once a cave here which (according to local tradition) was the cave of the Cyclops Polyphemus in The Odyssey. The cave has collapsed and is no longer accessible, but the interior was said to have been decorated with stalactites and stalagmites. Walking up the path for a few more meters, we see the strange building of Psaropyrgos. This is a rectangular building (8.5 x 4.0) consisting of elongated slabs of rock. To the east, there are also findings from other ancient stone structures. Gorgeous views from here to the bay and the village of Megalo Livadi.
