The top of the conically shaped rocky hill above the bay of Koutalas, between the beaches of Ganema and Koutalas, was the location of a fortified settlement which is now called the Castle of the Old Woman (Kastro tis Grias). Archaeological findings indicate the existence of an ancient wall, while a few remains of fortified positions have been preserved. Access to the top is not easy, and at points a little climbing is necessary. Initially we follow (backwards) the old path that starts at Agia Marina and goes to Reiki along the ridge, branching out before the hill with the castle to go right toward Koutalas and left toward Ganema. We take the path toward Ganema, and in about 500 meters, with the castle on our left, we start to climb the steep slope. As we approach, the terrain becomes rocky and steep. But when we reach the top (at 250 meters altitude) we will be compensated by the gorgeous panoramic view of the bay of Koutalas with its two idyllic beaches. Climbing time: 40 minutes.
