Open since 1998, the Municipal Aquarium of Vyroneia was the first freshwater aquarium to operate in Greece. Housed in a former warehouse of the Hellenic Railways Organization, it aims to highlight the natural wealth of the region and to raise public awareness regarding the environment and its protection. In the great hall with the aquaria, it hosts about 27 species of fish from the region (for example, sheatfish, carp, eel), while in another room visitors can watch informative videos.
