Akritochori

One of the most beautiful and well kept villages in the area, Akritochori is built on a slope of Mount Beles, overlooking the Strymonas River, Lake Kerkini, and the plain of Serres. Just above the village is the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Baptist (or Timios Prodromos, also called the Women's Hermitage or Convent of Saint John the Baptist). There are two guest houses and tavernas in the village, which also crosses international path E4/6.
