Kaniskas Forest

The beautiful fir tree wood of Kaniska stretches in the area west of the Manesaiikos River (a tributary of the Selinoudas) and of the dirt road towards the Monastery of Makellaria that starts north of Neochori. A very lovely walking excursion (5-6 hours) that also crosses the wood, is from Manesi. We follow the road towards the Holy Monastery of Saint Georgios and continue afterwards along the road in the direction of the Monastery or by following the excursion along the length of the Manesaiikos River, to the Lefterochori location. On the second excursion, the trip also passes by the main source of Despotis where according to legend, an army (13,000 soldiers) of Ibrahim Pasha stopped in June of 1827 on its way to Kalavryta.
