Leontio Ancient Theater

Founded by the Ionians, ancient Leontio was a city in Achaea that was a member of the Ionian (or Ionic) Dodecapolis (12 towns). The city was destroyed at the end of the 3rd century BC by Philip V of Macedon (or Macedonia). To date, there have been excavations on a hill three kilometers northwest of Vlasia that revealed the walls of the citadel of the ancient city and, on the eastern slope of the hill, an ancient theater. Leaving Kato Vlasiato to head for Menychtaiika, exactly where we turn right (toward Menychtaiika) we can see a dirt road on the hill (on our left) that heads off obliquely to our left. Following it for about 800 meters, we arrive at the base of the acropolis of the ancient town. We follow the footpath that goes to the right of the hill for 200-300 meters, and we will see on our right hand side, below us, the site of the ancient theater. Take care, as from up high the tiers do not show, and the place is untended, with weeds and dried plants.
