On the 23rd July 1948, a battle in the civil war took place in the surrounding area of the Monastery, one of the biggest battles in the Peloponnese. Behind the Monastery there is a monument and cross in memory of those who died in this battle. There are also the graves of eight soldiers and three officers and sub-officers of the 617 infantry regiment.
