A large village with an important history, Faraklo stands above the plain of Vatika southeast of Mesohori, with beautiful views of the Lakonian Gulf. The village was built by Venetians in the 15th century. During the period of Ottoman domination, it was the capital of the region, and after the Greek revolution it was the first capital of the then Municipality of Maleas. Starting at Faraklo and descending to the plain, we see the scattered ruins of several Byzantine and post-Byzantine churches, which testify to the history of the settlement.
