To the Tower of Fonias

The Tower of Fonias on Cape Lyriotiko and the Koulentianos Tower across from the southern edge of Platanistos, at Cape Koulenti, were observation towers intended to alert the inhabitants of these areas about such threats as pirate raids (usually by lighting a fire). The tower has been designated a preserved monument of cultural heritage. We can reach it via a smooth dirt road starting from the middle of Marathias (at the point we show on the map), moving first eastward, and then northwest.
