A very beautiful detour off the track of Path One (1) from Stavros to Kalotaritissa is the ascent to the top of Mount Papas, the highest spot on the island (along with the one in neighboring Vardia), at 387 meters. The climb begins to our right when we reach the highest point of the trail before the downhill walk toward Kalotaritissa. The elevation difference between this point and the peak is about 100 to 110 meters, and we can make the climb in 15 to 20 minutes. The view we see from the top will compensate us for the arduous climb: the entire Aegean before us and the Gulf of Kalotaritissa beneath us, with Skoulonisi and (visible in the background) Ikaria.
