The government-run airport of Syros is 2 kilometers from the island's capital, Hermoupolis. Referred to as Syros Island National Airport and Syros National Airport Demetrius Vikelas (or Dimitrios Vikelas), the airport is named after a poet and prose writer who was born in Syros.
