The church dedicated to the patron saint of the capital is impressive, especially when it is illuminated in the evening. Founded in 1848 in the district of Vaporia, it is often referred to as the church of Saint Nicholas the Rich (Agios Nikolaos o Plousios) to distinguish it from the church of Saint Nicholas the Poor (o Ftochos) in Ano Syros.
