Stara Bridge was the boundary between free Greek Mani and the Turkish-occupied Bardounochoria, also called Tourkobardounochoria—a group of villages north of Mani or in northern Mani (there is disagreement about which) that were conquered by Turks but also inhabited by Greeks. The dilapidated stone building next to the bridge was a Turkish Outpost and Customs House. On the other side, we can see what is left of the watermill of Grafos.
